Outsourcing and remote workers a small business new reality

One of the most significant trends in 2017 will be outsourcing and remote workers.

This makes sense, given that almost all U.S. businesses have less than 20 employees. Hiring a full-time marketing person, bookkeeper or HR person may not make economic sense when those dollars can be directed to other strategic initiatives.

An article from CIO magazine in late 2015 suggested 10 outsourcing trends to watch in 2016. Some of these trends continue in 2016 such as IT security. That trend was discussed in last week’s column.

IT overall continues to be one of the stronger outsourcing areas. Full time IT people are expensive and may have a lot of down time. Additionally, with technology changing so quickly, staying abreast of current coding to software glitches may be too much in terms of time and cost for a small business.
